The Red Centre

Here we are beside Uluru, formerly known as Ayers Rock. It rises 1115 feet (340 metres) to it's peak. We had a lovely weekend in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. This amazing rock and Kata Tjuta below are about the only things out here in the middle of the Australian Outback. We thoroughly enjoyed our hike in Kata Tjuta and a bit of a hike around the base of Uluru. We saw some Aboriginal paintings on the rock and heard some legends. We had great views as we travelled around the base. One evening we had a barbeque where they then turned out the lights and we looked up at the stars and got a bit of an astronomy lesson on the sky there in the Southern Hemisphere. I saw lots of things that can't be seen from the Northern Hemisphere sky such as the entire Southern Cross. We could also distinctly see the line down the middle of the sky that is the center of the Milky Way and we also saw a black hole. If you want to see all of our pictures from the weekend, please click here. Enjoy!
